The Coronation of the Sun King

On June 7, 1654 in Reims Cathedral, Louis Dieudonné de Bourbon is coronated as the king of France. All the princes of the realm and of Europe are gathered, having in mind the splendor of the Ballet royal de la Nuit, which consacred ‘the greatest king in the world’ the year before – and to which now replies this true coronation before God.

Together with musicologist Thomas Leconte, Sébastien Daucé combined the precious information kept about this extraordinary ceremony with the existing musical sources, to offer a musical coronation of Louis XIV, opening the ears of the 21st century listener on the polyphonic treasures of the past.

“Royal de luxe !” Le Progrès

“The listener is immersed in the sumptuous musical imagination of the sacred ceremony…” Olyrix
