Un grand siècle
de musique

6 March in Grenoble Correspondances will present a new program Divertissements by Charpentier.

Recognized as one of the greatest composers of sacred music of the Grand Siècle, Marc-Antoine Charpentier does not seem to have limited his creativity to the sublime lessons from the Tenebrae, Motets and Psalms; around 1670 he met the great Molière, who was then in search of a talented musician that could find some notes on verses interludes that intersect the acts of his comedies – The Imaginary Invalid, Forced Marriage, The Sicilian …

Charpentier is illustrated in this kind of court entertainment that sets a free and subtle humor, giving us to hear the liveliness of a brilliant mind.

In a few short years of existence, Correspondances has become a benchmark ensemble in the seventeenth-century French repertory.
