Charpentier and his Roman masters

This concert concentrates in itself the different liturgic times of the holy week, from the Tenebrae to the Matins. Three Tenebrae Lessons of Charpentier are mirrored with pieces of his roman masters : a répons and a Magnificat Bonifacio Graziani composed in the years in which the french composer arrived in Rome. Charpentier certainely heard these pieces in the Church of Saint-Louis Des Français where Graziani officiated. And pieces of Carissimi, Charpentier’s master during his roman journey. Gathered in this concert, they highlight the musical world of Charpentier before he composed himself upon his return and illustrate the path from Passion to Ressurection.
