Precursor in terms of style, form and harmony, Charpentier returned to Paris in the late 1660s, imbued with a thousand riches collected in Italy for five years, according to concerts, meetings and discussions. In perpetual search, Charpentier has thus brought in this 17th century France a new breath, an exciting inventiveness, a taste for spices from elsewhere. From the very first work preserved in its famous Mélanges , one of the first lessons of darkness composed in France, this program reconstructs an imaginary liturgy from this nocturnal lament to the office of the sunrise.
