Le Concert royal de la Nuit – Bozar
27.01.21 ___ 20:00
Bozar, Palais des Beaux-Arts, Bruxelles
♢
In 1653, Mazarin had just returned to power after the disturbances of the Fronde rebellion. Commissioned by the cardinal in person, the famous Ballet royal de la nuit, danced by His Majesty Louis XIV at the age of fifteen, has been conceived at the highest levels of state as a promotional tool for royal power. The Concert royal de la nuit presents entire scenes from this ballet, which has largely disappeared since its creation, and has been entirely reconstituted by Sébastien Daucé, combined with scenes from the first Italian operas performed in France.
Through allegories, entertainment and dreams, this unprecedented program has been the first appearance of Louis XIV as the Sun King, and regains its former glory with the Ensemble Correspondances.
